Film Writing Workshops

Before the shooting of Another Day in France

An initial workshop (18 hours) was designed for researchers to introduce them to documentary filmmaking and the sensitive writing of the world. The goal was to allow them to let go, to move beyond purely textual writing, and to participate in the writing of the research film, to define intentions, and to reflect on a narrative as well as visual and sound motifs.

A second workshop brought together researchers and young migrants over several weekends throughout the year. These workshops were organized in Bordeaux. While the objective was to collaboratively write the film project, they also contributed to the research by providing a framework for dialogue with the young people that differed from the methods typically used in interviews or observation periods. Gathering together for several days, engaging in games, improvisation exercises, lively debates, film screenings, and discussions about visual and audio materials brought by the young participants, fostered rich and productive exchanges.

These workshops also introduced a group of young foreigners to documentary filmmaking and provided them with the foundational skills to embark on their own film shoot.

Before the shooting of Dokui-Olympe

An initial workshop session was dedicated to researchers to familiarize them with screenwriting. During this workshop, the film’s intentions and visual motifs were defined, thus enabling preparations for filming in Ivory Coast.
